HHMBA Junior Men Are OBA CHAMPS for the Second Consecutive Year!
The Junior Men defended their OBA title August 10-12 in Chatham. While going 6-0 last year the team had to work harder to repeat this year after dropping the opening game 1-0 against a tough Peterborough team. Jacob Douglas pitched an excellent game but the Eagles bats were too silent to support him.
Game two was a much different story with an 11-1 defeat against Lisle. Connor Kowalik was superb in tossing a one-hitter and had a perfect game through 4 2/3 innings. Damon Crumplen led the attack with 3 hits and 3 stolen bases and Jeremy Roach had two hits and one stolen base.
In game three Robert McDougall pitched a 6-hit shutout in a 5-0 victory over arch rival London Tecumsehs. The offense was led by Eric Brown’s two-run dinger.
Game four was a hard fought 5-2 comeback win against Niagara Falls. Mackenzie Storey provided a clutch two-run single to put the Eagles in the lead and Luke Warkentin provided insurance with a two-run blast in the 6th. Robert McDougall came in relief of starter Jake Timukas and held Niagara Falls scoreless over the last 3 1/3 innings to get the win.
After winning the dramatic draw for the bye the Eagles defeated Mansfield 12-2 to capture their second straight OBA title. Avery Chenier tossed a 3 hitter to insure the win with Adam Lencz doubling in brother Nick Lencz for the walk off win. It was Adam’s 4th RBI of the game. The pitching was tremendous as the Eagles only allowed 6 runs in the 5 games they played and the team played solid defense all weekend. It was truly a team effort and all players should be congratulated for their contributions not just during the tournament but all season long.
