T1 ROOKIE EAGLES OBA AA CHAMPIONS - SEP 2017
T1 ROOKIE EAGLES OBA AA CHAMPIONS
OBA Championship Weekend Recap:
The team opened their campaign on Friday night with a comfortable 10-5 win over Mississauga North. On Saturday, they had a tougher challenge in the morning, playing Brampton, but the offense woke up and the Eagles came out on top 17-9. Saturday afternoon was a tight contest against the hometeam, Brantford. The Eagles went down 4-0 after 4, but came alive in the 5th to tie the game, then went ahead by 1 in the top of the 7th. Solid defense shut down Brantford to preserve the 5-4 lead and the win.
Their 3-0 record got the Eagles a bye, and some valuable rest, on Sunday morning. In the afternoon, they faced their toughest challenge yet against Milton, who the Eagles were 2-2-1 against over the season. The boys played one of their best games of the year to post an 8-0 win and put themselves into the semi-finals as the only remaining undefeated team. In the semi-final, the Eagles faced an opponent they had not played all year, Vaughn. After an slow start, going down 3-0 after one inning, the Eagles woke up on offense and defense and posted an 8-4 win.
This set up a final showdown with Cambridge, the team that gave the Eagles their only tournament loss of the 2017 season. The final was a tight, tense, defensive game—the Eagles came out aggressively and put up 2 runs in the first inning, and this would be enough. They shut down Cambridge for the full 7 innings, not allowing a single runner to reach 3rd base. The final score was 2-0, giving the Eagles the AA championship, and back-to-back OBA titles, with a perfect 6-0 record.
